Are all in my laptop. I put the same exact programs onto my good old WinXP desktop with my ancient flatscreen monitor, and in all three programs, the difference between the color on the screen and the color on the printout is negligible. And if I fix it in one program, it imports into the other quite well. Go figure.
There’s something in this “artist special edition” that’s playing hobb with the color controls in them. This is frustrating and HP is going to get called about it, but at least I have a route to fix the colors.
Whew!
I screwed up that explanation this image is what the site should have looked like before. Note the difference in opacity between the body and the header and menu tabs:

This is what some people were seeing after I upgraded the theme:

Note the absent transparency in the body.
This is what it looks like now, with the solid background (lilac), which should work on everyone’s computers:

What I need to know from the people who are saying it was really dark this morning…like the middle one. Is that a change from, say, last week? I think the theme guy has screwed up the program and I need to let him know that.
Thanks!
The colors might not be right…I have no way of knowing after my experience with monitors and graphics programs in the last 24 hours, but at least you should be able to get an idea of the levels of color and transparency. There’s a default BG color, the blue. Then a background image. Then the semi transparent overlay for the text. If this wasn’t what you were seeing before, it’s never been right. What I know to be the case on my own computer is that it’s working fine in firefox and the transparent overlay is not working in IE.
Could you please let me know if this is actually a change or has been a problem from the beginning? It’s important for the designer of the theme to know.
As for the color of the drop down menu…I’m looking into that, but I think that’s determined by the background color. It’s a stupid linkage. I’d let it go because running the cursor over the options gave the secondary background color against which the black is quite legible, but I’ll see if I can get into the php/css and fix it. I’m not counting on it, mind you, because the code for this theme is very complex, which is part of what gives it the flexibility. But I’ve messed with it before…that’s what backups are for.
Thanks for the input.
Seems IE has problems with the new version of Constructor, so I’ve got to go track down yet more finesses to the php. Oh joy….For a theme that’s supposed to be so mutable, it’s got some real limitations. I still like its flexibility, but it’s hard to remember, from time to time, what changes I have to make in the php to make it really ours. But this transparency thing…that’s new.
Meantime, I went into the style codes for bubbles and changed every dark blue font reference I could find to a pale green…and those pesky comment things are still dark blue! I’ll keep looking….
And my problems with the color on my covers seems to link to some rocky interface between PSP and this computer…which came with it installed on it…one of the few useful programs included. I’ve never had color problems with psp, but I’m sure having them now. I tried putting photoshop on, and it’s much better. There are still some weird inconsistencies between image and printout…I expect that…but a texture completely disappearing in the printout? now that’s just weird.
Anyway…back to problem solving….
Zip, zero, nada, what has happened to my theme. probably has something to do with the upgrade, tho I can’t imagine why. I’m over on CC sorting out pages (the weird formatting was an easy fix. I’d punched a wrong button just before going to bed.) When I’m done there, we’ll try to get something pretty back up over here.
Then, a convers with David (CJ’s bro) this am has given me an idea how to solve my color problems. We shall see….
…to this regular blog posting. There’s a strange pressure to get something up regularly, especially about the major events in one’s professional life, but sometimes you just shouldn’t touch the publish button. Sometimes the writing becomes cathartic and no matter how you try to spin it into a humorous narrative, when the events and emotions involve dear friends, it’s just not something for public consumption. Generally, I control that urge pretty well—you’ve no idea the number of unpublished drafts that are sitting on the server—but yesterday I bowed to that pressure. I thought I’d managed a humorous take on the weekend, but this evening I rethought the decision to post and that’s why I’ve taken it down.
Suffice to say, the important part of the weekend was the chance to spend a little time with people I very much like and admire while getting some useful professional networking done. My creative muse seems to have received a much needed booster shot. Most people I know would kill for five minutes alone with Michael and Audrey and I was blessed with a lot more than that. It’s foolish to let sleep-deprived emotions spoil that simple fact.
Anything else is between my very dear friend, OSG, and myself. We’ve both had enough pressure on us the last couple of years to make our respective judgement more than a little questionable. It’s something we need to work out and being good friends, we will.
how to get the Cafe Press tab up as a direct link on the CC site, and the “stickied” intro post now displays properly rather than as half a post in an off-center box.
Whew.
I had to get several pieces of the puzzle that is the site upgraded, which required me to remember how to tweak Constructor, which is the underlying theme for the site. Took me until…what is it…2am, but it’s looking pretty good now. But if you went up today and it was looking weird, that’s why.
This one featuring my own darling child. Yes! Flagrant use of a minor! Complete with red bow!
Oh…it’s also got one of CJ’s all-time best quotes….From Tripoint. Thanks MM for reminding us!

I have to admit, I’m having a ball doing this. I’m afraid our store is going to be stuffed in no short order. I was going to collect our buttons, but maybe I’ll do ornaments of each design….Do a tree on the wall and hang them… wonder where I’d find an old limb we could cut in half and attach to the wall….hmmm….
People make more on the sale of a single mini button on cafe press than I made on the sale of a single copy of GroundTies. By several times.
How weird is that?
