Just a quick check-in before I head for bed.
Had a great trip only to come home sick. Grrrr…. I’ve managed to avoid the stuffy nose that plagued my sister-in-law and Carolyn, but I’ve been so sore I could hardly move, and today, the headache from hell. Ah, well. Soon.
The drive was spectacular. I’m hoping at least some of the pix came out. Going to check those tomorrow and hopefully have a bunch to put up.
And we got some GREAT rocks!!!!!
I had some real problems getting my email to work after I did the Win7 upgrade, and it quit altogether when I got home. I got it fixed at last, and spent today plowing through a backlog of almost 1000 emails, most of which were pure garbage…when I wasn’t huddled in bed. Sheesh. Had serious chills all day. Bleh!
But I’m feeling better this evening. Hopefully tomorrow will actually be productive.
Wow…what a concept….

speaking as a mother, don’t you think you’ll be more productive if you let yourself heal?
Although I am eagerly anticipating the pictures.
I was surprised to hear about the new rocks, thinking you have the pond all done, until I heard about the rock garden in the front yard
The edge of the pond is pretty well done, tho I’m going to try to shallow it out in places in order to put in some edge water plants to naturalize it a bit, but there will always be room for more rocks. I really want to make a little stream to run out of the corner behind the garage, through a couple of plant “nursery ponds” and into the main pond, with little rapids and such. This will entail building up the corner in such a way that it doesn’t rot out the fence, and, yes, MORE ROCK!
Then, as you say, there’s that big front mass…not to mention the sides. We’ll be swiping rock from the roadside for years to come!
The ‘Mother Hen Effect’ seems to be kicking in for a lot of us….In other words…..TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF…… the pics aren’t going anywhere.
Reeeelllly happy that you are back and that it was a good trip…take care
Getting the pictures up isn’t exactly hard labor.
The only thing that’s kept me from it the last couple of days is the headache that made it uncomfortable to work long on the computer.
Gone, now!
Did someone say ‘new garden’? . Wish I lived closer as I would be happy to help construct! I have a western/cactus garden/xeriscape on the west side of our Kansas garage and will have some plant suggestions
I must admit…I wish we could import a bunch of you. We could use the help. We’re attacking the front yard this year…ditching the grass and putting in trees and rocks and such. I’d love to work on a succulent rock garden at the front. something that would just take care of itself. Mainly, I want to eliminate all grass from the place. We live on top of a basalt flow and the drainage makes a lawn a real waste of water. Besides which, I can’t see paying a lawn crew to keep up something I don’t really like anyway. Grass is for feeding horses or playing croquet or badminton. Since we have none of the former and no time for the latter…it should just go away!!!!!
Amen to xeriscaping! Here in south Florida where grass and golf courses are king, we are the only house in our entire development that’s xeriscaped. We ripped out the underground sprinkler system (always breaking and a real waste of water) and just let the rain do the trick.
I swear, I sometimes want to run around Florida screaming “We live on a limited aquifer! Once the water level drops enough, we get salt water intrusion and then no fresh water for centuries while the aquifer rebuilds! Stop planting sugercane and building more damn golf courses! And stop watering the lawns during the rain, you idiots!”
