Is feedback on how to improve the book format conversions.
Every once in a while I hear from one of you who is having to do lots of work to get a file that will work on his/her reader. Remember, we have nothing but Calibre’s generic readers to test these files on. If it’s something we can do here as we’re doing our other conversions, and/or involves a different (free?) program, please, please, please let us know what you’re doing, how and why so we can offer files as “perfect” as possible.
Some of you have offered to do some of the conversions for us, which we really appreciate, but we’re trying to learn to do it ourselves so we can put together a “how-to” to offer to other authors.
Also…a note regarding my recent silly meltdowns…
Lest anyone assume it is the direct result of certain well-considered comments posted on this site, let me assure you, this is not the case. They added to it, sure, but I was already feeling a bit battered by feedback from elsewhere including some private emails, so please don’t fault any of our wonderful guests. We love you all and want you all to feel welcome, and, yes, able to voice opinions, just please…wait a bit for opinions on the website, unless it’s something that’s actually not working. This does not include having to look a bit for a link. They’re there. Think of it as a treasure hunt! :D
Divide it this way: Site gritches: go to Carolyn (and then we have to deal with her fixing them!!!???!!!!)
File formatting problems come to me.
From this point on, if we get an update on how to do a conversion that necessitates redoing a file, those files will be available to anyone who has purchased the file, but only on a request basis. We’ll post “updates available” on the CC site. You don’t need to prove purchase, just notify us from the same email used in your purchase. We have all those on file.
that should cover it! Hugs!

Hugs back!
I’ve turned into a lurker here
, and I do keep up with your and Carolyn’s sites through RSS feed (I still need to configure RSS feed for Lynn’s site which was inactive for some time). I am not brave enough to try the Win7 upgrade and I admire all the technical know-how you and Carolyn have gained. I think you two are just amazing!
In January I had only my desktop computer to read ebooks and I admit I did not get very far reading Groundties before a bunch of other things came up. Plus I have always read books while laying down, even in college. Then a couple weeks ago a good friend gave me an iPod touch and I am so looking forward to reading an ebook somewhere besides my computer desk. I will certainly have another go at Groundties once I figure out how to get it from my computer to the iPod. I am trying to use Stanza and unfortunately Apple as of a few weeks ago no longer allows the USB transfer of ebooks, I have to use a shared wifi connection (isn’t that just silly?). So I am trying to get that worked out.
I did initiate another download of Groundties last week when I couldn’t find the original folder, but the 2nd download attempt pointed me right to it so I did not actually download the file again. I hope that did not raise a red flag or get me blacklisted
I’d like to thank you, Carolyn and Lynn for the blogs and I love the Closed Circle store
, just that it exists in my mind is a great accomplishment, a comfort to your loyal fans and something you should be very proud of. Since you’ve begun the sites I’ve forced myself to learn about blogging and RSS feeds (and ice skating and pond keeping
) and I feel that you’ve played a huge role in dragging me, kicking and screaming, into the 21st century. Thank you!
Thanks for Groundties. I just finished it and you were correct when wrote on the CC page that I’d be wanting more! I just ordered Uplink and Harmonies from the CC site! This story grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. I lost most of my sleep night before last because I couldn’t stop.
, its engrossing and fascinating but I don’t really like Stephen. Is that weird? I like a lot of the characters, but Stephen is annoying, a real anti-hero. I really like Anevai
and sympathize with her feelings, without the attraction to Stephen. Of course, this is only from reading Groundties, I’m sure by the time I finish Harmonies my mind will be more completely blown and so will these perceptions.
However, I feel a little strange when reading this story. I think you wanted the reader to feel for Stephen, but while I empathized with his situations, I didn’t feel sympathy. I love the story
Wheee!!!! home at last… That’s why it took so long to okay this comment. Sorry about that!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the book, but I’m sorry you didn’t get to sleep!
Hmmm…like? I wish I could guarantee that, but I can’t, really. I hope at least that he’s interesting. Stephen is a very troubled young man and not a universal cuppa tea. :D He’s also got to be pretty well torn apart in order to be put back together. Makes for some admittedly uncomfortable moments in the series. I really want to get the next book written so we finally see him in control of his life. He deserves it!
One thing I was able to achieve in the rewrite of the series is, I hope, a better balance between intensity and breathing room to digest the story. In the initial series, I had to cut a lot of that out because Warner demanded I make it shorter. I also made a neat discovery when I wrote ‘NetWalkers that really enriches the relationship between Stephen and Wesley. I always knew there was something important they weren’t telling me, but it took writing the prequel to find out what that something was! :D
