I'm . . . hoping, frankly, that PoD prices will come down a bit. Alternatively, I'm considering, once I get all our available backlist and my new books up, and the ebook part is just keeping up with new production, that I'll be able to take preorders to help finance a print run for enough copies that it would bring everyone's cost down substantially from individual PoDs.
That's all in the future. Right now...ebooks first! :D

I am not sure what the fine print is behind these sites, but Lulu has a number of good options for collectors who simply must have a physical version of a book. You can even get dustjackets there. To a lesser extent there is always CafePress. Lulu has the most options though. It would be pricey, but we are talking collectors here. The majority of the people would consume the ebook still.

One cool thing about being the author is that YOU define what the "universe" is! :D It's definitely something an author needs to be careful of in wording a contract. In Carolyn's case, however, no one holds those rights but her, so not to worry!

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

Kerry, Thank you! I'm glad you want another. Rings of Change: Alizant, is done and should be available from CC in a couple of months. I've got to prep the other three and get them up, then do the cover. I can't wait for people's reaction...I love it...esp Deymio's wedding and Dancer's entrance into Rhomatum. It has some fun moments, and I think it's a pretty cool story. (But then, if I didn't, I wouldn't have spent a year and a half working on it! :D)

DAW has declared it too long (after sitting on it for six years) since RoD. As far as I can figure, they never even read any of the five books they were sitting on, saying they wanted to publish. At this time, they're not the least bit interested in any of the series I want to work on. I'm a slow reader and writer and I want to finish the stories I've started. They want me to write one more urban fantasy. That's all anyone in NY wants right now from any midlist writer with a midlist history.

OTOH, with luck, eventually, probably soon, there will be a truly viable Print on Demand and we'll be able to get you that on the shelf copy.

As for DAW putting CC anywhere on Carolyn's next book...all we can do is ask. I'd love to somehow gig them into doing ebooks for those they have electronic rights to. I mean, heck, if we can, why can't they?

Unfortunately, the supply is not infinite if the Pub holds the ebook rights and the rights to future books in the series. that is sad. The idea that I may never read another book in CJ's Merchanter universe because New York would prefer that I read Dan Brown really steams me up.

I wonder if you could do a "Print on Demand" kind of thing, though it would not be cheap....

I am glad you are going to charge for your new works what Amazon is charging for new ebooks, that seems absolutely right to me. There is no difference on my kindle between an ebook bought at Amazon and one bought at CC. Why should you charge less?

Awesome post Jane! I am hoping that after the dust settles the publishers will see that the world has shifted and do there best to hold onto the people that make the magic. I'm not holding my breathe. I really really hope that CC takes way off and you all become filthy rich!

I’m glad your upping your e-book price as I was unable to see how you can earn a reasonable living at $5, especially in the short run. I must add that it will drive me crazy not to finish the ring series I have on my shelves with a paper edition. Any chance DAW will publish the next one?
I have to admit to not being at all techie (but do own a kindle) but it seems to me that computer problems eat up an inordinate amount of time. I have often wondered if they are really the so called time saver they are purported to be.
Can CJ have the CC website put on her book jackets?
