deadOkay…here they are. Looking at them, I’m going to need to change the proportions on Destiny (the word in the title) a bit, but not right at the moment. I’m…tired! I’m going to go curl up with my computer and the Rusalka file and pretend I’m working.

But here, just for giggles, is the set of covers.

YIPES! What’s that big blue line down Khyel’s front?!? Shoot…back to PSP…

There…that should take care of it. Whew!

Ja ne!

Ja ne!

  1. As Pure Win as each one is individually — together, they are a knock-out.

I didn’t notice this before — maybe someone else has & commented on it — but I just realized book #1 has 1 ring — book #2 has 2 rings — and #3, 3 rings. I just love this kind of symbolism & disguised “symmetry”!

Er…Not very subtle, am I? I didn’t really want to put “book one” “book two” etc. And as long as I’ve got the ring motif, heck, why not use it?

Rings of Change, the next story arc, is going to pose a different problem. I’ve started planning the cover, but it’s going to be a lot more difficult. The arc is linked, but not nearly as closely as this one. Just for giggles, the titles are:

      Rings of Change: Alizant
      Rings of Change: Ardiin
      Rings of Change: Jeremin

And who, you ask, are Ardiin and Jeremin?

      Heh heh

But I’m faced with doing the cover for a book I know that should “go with” the covers of two books I’ve yet to write. Who knows? When the time comes, I might give Alizant a new cover to match the one for the next book. Gosh, it’s fun not having to be a slave to The Way It’s Been Done Before!

Hi Jane, I’m new to CaptainAndLime…love the covers..and admire you for letting us watch the evolution of your work….these are books I would buy by their covers…however, I have not read any of your work…is it all going to be on CC…please?

Welcome! Welcome! And thanks for the vote of confidence.

I was pretty nervous about putting the in-process up at first, but I was hoping it would be interesting and not TOO embarrassing. Besides, I get pretty focused when I’m on a project and it’s about the only way to update my blog regularly!

Now, I’m just very grateful to have the backup so I can refine them before putting them up online for sale.

Yup…everything I’ve written is going to be available on CC, including both the original versions of the Groundties books and their new ‘NetWalkers editions.

      Oi….More covers to do! ARGH!

    They are a beautiful set!

I’ve been viewing the development during the week from my office computer, and I still don’t have my password there, so haven’t been able to comment. I really like the way #2 turned out–greatly approve of the simplification of the original concept, and really like the movement in the artwork :^) I love both of your dancers.

And the Destiny cover is terrific. I love the two sets of interlocking rings.

One technical comment… They make a lovely set of covers. Do you maybe want to add some white drop shadow behind “Ring of” on the Lighning cover to make it parallel the other two titles?

    • avatar Jane says:

Hiya! Thought that was probably the case.

Thinking about it (matching the titles). Also thinking about making the other two like RoL. It’s funny…I think of the books as Lightning, Intrigue and Destiny, so the more I downplay the Ring of part, the better I like it. Silly, eh? There’s just something about “of” that I’m not keen on. The “Dance of the Rings” series title was DAW’s idea, not mine. I don’t mind it, but it wasn’t something I came up with, which is why I haven’t used it here. I might, on the title page, just to help establish the order of the books, but it doesn’t really apply to the Rings of Change arc coming up.

I dunno…Sheesh…There are real advantages to letting other people worry about all this! :D

We leave tomorrow for a week of camping, hiking and relaxing, and Ring of Lightning is coming with me. With the old cover, but I now have a better visualization of the boys!

Felicitations. Watching the process adds to my enjoyment. More more…

When CJ mentioned you had content for Closed Circle, she didn’t really mean it was up and ready to go did she? I had to go looking of course. I jumped the gun, didn’t I!

Ms Impatience strikes again! You’re right… She’s got the behind the scenes part to work, now she has to find out how to get it to show and then, we need to set up the paypal accounts. Mostly, I think she’s trying to let y’all know we’re making real progress.

Since I’ve only got covers and she’s got more stories than covers to go with, we just aren’t quite ready to go, yet. Soon, tho.

But she’s getting the text for the “past” Present” “future” things. Now, if we can just get a simple catalog page! :D

  7. I went to Closed Circle also & couldn’t find a thing. waaaaaa!

Is it correct for me to assume Carolyn is up to her usual tricks? That woman needs a leash & muzzle!

Ooh, I love seeing the covers all together like this! They really do work well in concert!
But yes, I’d advise matching the titles… they do sort of march upwards along the trilogy :)

  9. avatar Hanneke says:

They look great, together and by themselves.
When you’re fiddling with the last title, you might consider lowering the title of Ring of Intrigue just a smidgeon, to bring it to the same height as Ring of Lightning and to give the two dancers’ rings a bit more room.
I’m looking forward to buying them when Closed Circle opens.
By the way, I just added the original artists’ names to the pictures in my gallery, as you suggested a while back.

    • avatar Jane says:

I’m going to regularize size and placement tonight.

I just went and checked out your pictures. BEAUTIFUL! I would love to see the originals. Did you post a notice on the galleries page so people know you’ve put them up?

Hello! May I please ask where and when will your new book “Ring of Change” be available? I love the way you portray the brothers – I especially adore Deymorin and Mikhyel – and I can’t wait to read more about them :)

    • avatar Jane says:

Thank you! If all goes well, it’ll be available as an e-book by Christmas. I’m working on the cover for it now, along with the Rusalka cover. They’re both a bit more difficult than the original Ring books were. If you’re new to the site, the quick story on Change is that DAW decided it had been too long and the Ring books didn’t sell well enough to take a risk on another, so they won’t be publishing Change, but all you need to read an ebook is your computer. I hope everyone will give it a try because I love the way it turned out. I think Nikki’s going to gain a few fans with it…I hope so, anyway… but Khyel and Dancer are in excellent form and (if I do say so myself) it’s worth it just for Deymio’s wedding! :D

And we finally get around to Alizant’s generator!
