Got back to skating today! YAY! Felt good to be back on the ice.

A new page has been added! It’s not much, just something of a Blogging FAQ page but it might be useful to some of you. Basically, I’m finding out bits and pieces regarding blogs in general and WordPress (the ”software” on which this blog is built)  in particular that others might find useful as well. Things like how to put up your own avatar, how to zoom the screen (Control + seems to work in pretty much everywhere) and what plugins I’m using…things like that.

Other than that, today I began to put together an Amazon toy shop on my main site.  It’ll have things I’ll be talking about on my site a lot. My wacom intuos 4 board is on order and when it gets here, I’ll be posting my Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro discovery of the day. Basically, I’m hoping to take the time at last to sit and play with these programs and share here. It’s “CJ’s” shop because we’re doing it under her associates account.  We’ve got a book store as well. It includes my books as well as hers now.

Speaking of which, there’s a copy of the graphic up there for $78 and change. That’s nuts! From the information given, it’s a copy of the black and white I put out. I’ve given those away at conventions. I sell them in a set with the two color volumes for $18.  Please, please please, don’t anyone spend that kind of money! If you’re intested, contact us. We’ve been a little scattered the last year or so, but we’re trying to get more organized and get the orders processed in a more timely manner. If you’d like to take a look at what I’m talking about, here’s the link to the graphic’s web page.

As far as the slideshows are concerned, I can’t find the poll widgit I want, so I’m just going to make an executive decision. I see no point in going with the smaller pictures. That said, I’ll be uploading new versions of the original set, so they’ll be much prettier on full screen.

But not tonight. I’m wiped.

I’ve been reading about the reef tank for a long time – it’s great to actually see it now! Beautiful!

I prefer large size pictures and text, too. Much as I hate to admit it, age isn’t improving my eyesight. :ermm:

When I have a new batch ready to go up, I’ll be posting a reef slideshow like the pond slideshow into a blog post. These will then be archived under the gallerys/photo category, so as I add to the sets up on Flickr, you can access them. I’ll announce in the blog when I add to them. That’s the plan, anyway….We’ll see how it all works in practice! Meantime, you s/b able to follow the link to my Flickr site through the sidepanel teaser and see the full size pix of the tank.

And I helped caption them, so you know who all our scaly friends are…
Alas, the tank suffered a bit in the move—suffered a lot in the move—and we lost some corals, like the pretty and vigorous a. valida. But the hammer coral blossomed to the size of a soccer ball, and takes up a whole corner of the tank, and we had to peel some of the green star polyp off the glass.

I believe in homegrown corals—ie, I don’t buy wild colonies and discourage anybody but coral-replicators from doing so. I buy only ‘frags’, pieces broken off a larger coral. Corals reproduce that way, and corals, if well supplied with good water, grow fairly fast. They’re fairly immortal—one piece begets another coral, so in that sense, they may be centuries old: they break easily, and if annoyed, they pop out of their stony home and probably, in the wild, settle elsewhere. Plus they spawn, to the delight of hungry fishes. Spawning won’t do it in a marine tank (yes, the term ‘reef’ is perfectly valid) but fragging is very easy. I’ve fragged the montipora no few times by accident, while cleaning the tank. You just superglue the broken bit to a piece of coral and it grows a new coral.

Jane, are you going to go to the format Carolyn has? Larger print & those Gravatar avatars?

(we’ll see what happens when this posts. Maybe Gravatar is already enabled??)

    • avatar Jane says:

Hmmm…gravatars are already enabled. I’m the one who told Carolyn how to get them to appear. (My alterego is Vindalootoo) They s/b coming up. Vindalootoo’s did. OTOH, when did you set up your Gravatar? Was it aftr you posted on this site? It might be the software on the site has already associated the goofy little green smiley face with your email. I just don’t know. I’ll try to find out. See if I can somehow reset them…

As for the theme…the one Carolyn’s using is really popular in part because it’s really easy to adjust parameters. But it requires banners…at least one, and The Captain and Lime haven’t suggested one yet, neither do I have time right now to draw one. Carolyn’s title lends itself well to distinctive banners that are relatively quick to do.

More to the point, I don’t want it to look like hers! I want it to look like mine. :D OTOH, I’m increasingly displeased with certain aspects of this theme. It looks good, but it’s really basic, and it’s messages don’t thread! . And that tiny type is really annoying.

      So…back to that theme problem.
