Da Big Secrud!

My dear framily, (what a great, efficient word that is!)

Two weeks from now, on May 17, Carolyn and I are going to officially convert our Domestic Partnership into a legal marriage. After twenty-odd years of sharing a domicile and every facet of our creative and real world lives, we figure we’ve earned it and are incredibly grateful that Washington State is giving us this opportunity.

We’re making the occasion as quiet and simple as we can. At our age, everyone we know and love have better things to do with their time and money than travel to Spokane for a fifteen minute ceremony and too much cake. We’ll welcome a handful of our local “family” into our backyard … which will hopefully be transformed from the post-construction zone it now is …to witness the formalities, eat simple (but nommy)  food schlepped in from our favorite sports bar and BBQ joint, and kill the wedding cake we both agreed MUST be included. We’ll sip some champagne, sing some filk, and feed the fish. This is what we can afford and really, all we want. Though we’d love to have all of you here to share that moment, we frankly decided our available cash was better spent on our new fence.

Ah, the joys of getting old and practical!

We need nothing, but if you’d care to take a moment at about 3PM on May 17, 2014 and raise a glass of bubbly anything to twenty-eight years and counting, we’d love your blessing.

  • Congratulations!!!!

But it will still be a partnership, won’t it… that’s the best kind of marriage.

That’ll be 6PM my time, perfect for a celebratory dinner in your honour.

    Cheers

Congrats! Congrats! Congrats! (There had to be three, right? 🙂 )

May you both continue your together-dance in light and joy for all the years you wish, and then some.

  • Wishing you both health and happiness always.

Kinda gives a fella hope there still might be a nice winsome lad out there meant for him…. He’d better be looking for me, because I haven’t had a very good track record of looking, and might not know if I did find him….

It’s good to know some folks find that right someone! Bravas!

Congratulations!!!! Wishing you both the best that life can offer and glorious weather on your wedding day 🙂

Hope someone is taking pics that you’ll share a few with us that will be there in spirit with you….

Congratulations! Raising a glass to many, many more years of a lovely partnership, both unofficial and official-

Congratulations! 3 pm your time, the sun will be well over the yardarm in my location and i will be so very happy to toast the two of you.

  • chondrite

Muchos felicitations to the both of you! I will be at work that day and time, but will raise a cup of coffee in your honor. It gives me hope my own partnership might be so enduring.

You had what looked like half a dozen cake samples — which one did you and Da Boyz choose? (After the Pook got over his sugar fit.)

There better jolly well be pictures!

  • CJ

AH, we’ll show you our outfits and tell you about the cake when we have pix!

  • ready4more

Well, it’s about time you made each other “honest” women…
Mikey and I wish you all the happiness in the world, and many circuits of the sun in which to enjoy it. We can’t think of many couples who have stood the tests of time and trial so gracefully together. Go ye forth and be fruitful, and writerly…

  • Kroyd

Most wonderful wishes to you both for many more years of partnership. (Please ensure that the Wesser is Locked Up in an unescapable place on your day of days. “grin” )

May you both have all the happiness you deserve!

My Asian guy (Shiro?) turned out well, but I need an emery board to file down a flaw where he got too much paint (or something) and then seal on top of that. However, I like the color I had for the prior attempt. His eyebrows aren’t perfect, but they’re staying. Ah well.

New! Homer(?) or Dylan(?) came out pretty well. Not perfect, but I like an effect that wasn’t intentional. I used a Q-tip and blotting to try blushing his faceup. What I got ended up a bit mottled, strong in places, almost absent in others. But since I was trying for a base for possible freckles and ginger / auburn hair, this turned out nicely. I’m going to seal what I’ve got before attempting freckles. There will be practice first. I intend to try a toothbrush flick or spatter of the bristles, because I think that will be more random than intentional stippling with, say, a toothpick, the other method I’d try.

I had damaged the eyes I had for him when I forgot to take them out before removing the previous faceup. Good thing I had a spare.

So he’s almost ready; awaiting a body and an item or two before I can get a package ready to send.

Photos forthcoming, probably more than one slideshow.

I’m supposed to pick up a package tomorrow, if my cabbie doesn’t (argh) back out.

    • sounds great! Look forward to the pix. Sometimes serendipity gives the best results!

      • Dern it, emery board. His sculpt is undamaged, but the file slipped and abraded the paint on Shiro’s (or Kaito’s) cheek. His face is tripped, sealed, and awaiting another try. Maybe the felicitous third try will be the charm.

Homer / Dylan / Jason / Morgan is sealed and awaiting freckles! 😀 the package arrived, so now he has a body.

      • Hikaru’s (thanks to Chondrite for the name) faceup is finished! I had to redo it; I abraded something in the faceup; not the sculpt; while trying to fix something else. His eyebrows and lips aren’t perfect, he didn’t end up blushed, but I think the color’s good. I’ll know when I see how the photos look at full size.

The “obstinate girl!” wouldn’t take eyebrows, her coloring had to be redone, so she is wiped again, ready to be sealed and start over yet again. Sigh. (And I’m taking a break from doing faceups for a day or two before I try hers again.)

Homer? or Dylan? — Is done, sealed, except I still want to try freckles…I think. An experiment, ~not~ on him, with two different methods proved too hit-or-miss, and I have another couple of ways to try. But unless I find a solution that looks realistic enough, he’s likely not to have freckles, at least for now. — I need to get together what to send with him to Hanneke to be tailored. — I may order a couple of items also, which ~might~ get here before I can ship him on his way. — He’s not perfect either, but I’m still pretty happy with how he turned out. There’s a sort of mottling to his skin tones that fits with the way some redheads or freckled people’s skin looks.

        So, progress!

  • Many many thanks!

Cake: We actually ended up with two she didn’t have samples of! She’s a small shop and just had samples of her most recent cakes, but they were fabulous. And she does beautiful buttercream flowers, which is what we wanted. The cake design is a secrud still, but the flavors will be spice with cream cheese for one layer and chocolate with raspberry for another and the “anniversary” top will be the spice again. The boys will also have a small coconut with fudge cake.

And the topper will be amazing, in part because a dear friend is making it.

We have several shutterbugs in the bunch, so I imagine we’ll have more pix than we know what to do with! 😀

    • I like both kinds of cake! Spice cake with cream cheese frosting is what I used to make for my birthday cake! Chocolate with a raspberry ‘jam’ is my other fave – like Sachertortes!

Eat some for me! (I can’t have it due to the gluten.) I’ll eat a gluten-free cupcake in y’all’s honour!

Congratulations!!! I’m so happy for both of you!
I wish you both a lovely, lovely day, with good weather, the garden looking great with the new additions, good friends and a very tasty wedding cake, and a really perfect intimate ceremony to celebrate your togetherness.

  • What a beautiful time of year to celebrate your love. Thinking about your wedding brings a goofy smile to my face.
It will be six pm here when we will raise a glass to you and CJ!
Continuing good wishes for Joy and Happiness to you both!

  • Isharell

Congratulations! Hope the weather is lovely for your day and you have many, many years of happiness.
