Pukisha Watch 3: a little subterfuge

Oh…he’s such a worrier…

41 comments to Pukisha Watch 3: a little subterfuge

  • Isharell

I confess to being worried at such naughty behavior…but then he ‘fessed up to his Mama. You’re bringing that boy up right, Jane. :D

  • Heh heh…he’s gotta be a little boy sometimes. I almost waited until tomorrow to put up the last bit, but thought he deserved to be vindicated in the same session. He’s had a lot of spoiling in a handful of months! It would be a wonder if he didn’t get a little confused about proper behavior. ;)

  • Amazing what a guilty conscience can do, right? I think he just keeps forgetting about that camera that spies on him. Poor Tink can only go along, because he really doesn’t know what’s up.

    Great poses, Jane.

  • Aw, Wiishu. Naughty one minute, sweet the next, wants to please, wants all the attention…totally hasn’t dawned on him he might *like* the new arrival and might have a friend there, if he gives the new kid/critter a chance.

Hmm, it’s gonna be hard staying with only *meep*, that might have to vary somehow.

Oh, is Wiishu gonna be in for it. So are we! Bring it on!

  • I confess I have been bad about spoiling Wiishu a bit much, but I knew he could use some things while you got your mad sewing skills back up to speed. Same thing with Pukisha kitty, though it’s just two mix-and-match boy outfits for when he first arrives.

  • He’s had attention lavished on him since the day he came out of the box, so it w/b a wonder if he weren’t, but, hey, who could be more deserving? He’s a positive smile and laughter factory!

Sigh…I wish they were mad. I truly just make it up as I go along. But dummy me signed up for the project runway challenge and now I’ve got to produce before the end of the month. I fear my outfit is going to be pretty basic. Had a really cute idea that the powers that be nixed because they claimed the fabric was “themed” and “costumey.” (I fear the judges for the game will be as bizarre as the real PR judges…has anyone ever actually looked at a Michael Koors’ collection? Boooooring!) I have very different notions about what “Halloween themed” means and what kids would love to wear year round, but, hey, that’s just me.

    • chondrite

AFAIK, around a certain age, if it can tie in to a popular movie or TV trope, kids adore it. One of my young acquaintances wore what seemed to be nothing but Disney princess costumes for about 6 months straight!

  • The problem there is scale. There are no movie tie-in prints on a 1/6 scale. I’d like to make him a shirt out of socks in a little boy pattern, but that would mean his jacket needs to be a print…which was my first thought for the outfit.

The silly truth is, I shouldn’t have signed up for this challenge. I thought it w/b a way to get Wiishu a cute new outfit, but the way they’ve set up the challenge is, I think, a little too narrow for us. The fact is, I design for Wiishu, not a 2013 kid of X-age. The challenge was casual wear for a fall/winter collection aimed at a high-end department store. You’re supposed to use three different textures and at least one print. I posted my fabric choices…a really cute print that I was going to use for a coat, blue fuzzy stuff (like his toque) for lining and a hat, black rayon for his cargo pants and cute socks to turn into a knit shirt.

They immediately came down on me for “themed” fabric… And it was, sort of. Most people would look at it and, if pressed, would call it “Halloween”. Purple and blue fabric with black cats and turquoise stars and moons. To me, it’s black cat fabric not Halloween and black cats are year round. It was a small print and so becomes, in a coat with pale blue fuzzy trim, just a lively texture. I was going to do that coat, his blue Cossack hat, a little knit shirt, and black cargo pants.

They declared the fabric “themed” and “costumy”. The only other option was a solid red coat with black trim and that would mean I had to get the print in somewhere else. The only red containing print fabric that Wiishu likes is an adorable stuff with little circles filled with flowers and butterflies in bright colors on a black background which I know they will declare inappropriate for a boy…and they’d probably have a point: if you look at, say, Macy’s casual wear for any kid under 14, it’s all t-shirts with decals or plain or plaid shirts.

What I want to do would be…boutique I suppose (she says, tongue firmly implanted in cheek) i.e. for the kid whose not scared to wear what he likes.

OTOH…I’ve seen the designs some of the others are doing for their little girl dolls and it’s no more department store than what I want to do for him. So…maybe they wouldn’t say anything. It’s just that I got into it to have fun and now it’s been turned into, well, not-fun. I’m still going to make him his cargo pants and we’ll just see what else I get done before the end of the month. He’ll definitely get his red coat with black fur trim and his black cat coat eventually.

But as far as the game is concerned…We’ll just have to see. I can always bow out. I just hate quitting on anything. :D

    • but if they’re changing the rules on you, I’d tell ‘em to stuff it. You didn’t sign up to be Donna Karan or Vera Wang, you’re designing for Wiishu.

    • chondrite

Try searching ebay. I looked for ‘fabrics comics’, and there are several superhero themed prints in about the right scale. If you have a motif in mind, you could probably find a fat quarter or remnant that you want to work with. I’m sorry they bounced your original idea; it does sound like they are being more restrictive on you than they are on others. There are several great Japanese kimono prints that I’m sure Wiishu would love, and if they bounce those, they aren’t thinking straight. If Wiishu gets his nose out of joint over that, tell him it’s what a samurai would wear around the house!

    • Hrumph… DoA can be so anal. There’s a reason we moved our meetup threads to Facebook – got tired of getting our wrists slapped all the time. And they are VERY unfriendly to male collectors.

How about some shirt-weight small plaid for the pattern?

      • I’m kinda getting that. But there are some nice folks there. That sucks about the male collectors. I’ve been in contact with a couple of guys who are really nice and talented. One really fine photographer….He just goes by “Frank”. I really love his concepts for his photos as well as the execution.

Couldn’t find any plaid I liked and that was small enough. However…if I can find the MacPhail tartan in miniature, he’s gonna get a kilt some day. I’ve always wanted to make one! :D

  • Heh, I’m with Joe on that. I’d also say: Oh, come on, Wiishu is a “house-elf,” a boy out of the realms of folklore and fantasy, magical. So of course he’s not going to have a sense of style that comes from the local mall and what kids today wear. In other words, go with the costume ideas you like. Some will fit in with what kids today wear. Others will be unique. Frankly, the whole idea behind style/fashion is supposed to be to create something that looks cool so people will want to wear it. So have fun doin’ your thing! If I could sew, I’d probably try costumes and clothing design, but me and needles don’t get along, too dang tiny. :)

I thought his outfit for the horse pictures was great. Ditto the newsboy looks and several others. — What you’ve outlined above sounds like it could be good. :)

What about fleece? The issue there is probably that, to scale, fleece would be way thick on him.

Hmm, and on the issue of style sense — Wiishu’s a boy, a kid, and a house-elf. (Well, obviously, BCS, so what?) So he is going to have his ideas on style. What’s cool with the house-elf boys? What would be uncool with the house-elf boys? I’d imagine house-elves, being house-elves, would have their own crafty ideas on what’s cool and how to make clothes. Note Wiishu is a pretty cool house-elf boy, seems to like being in style. He might occasionally pick something or get a gift that didn’t quite make it with the house-elf boys. Or maybe he’d get or make something that really wows ‘em.

Not like I’m getting way into analyzing a fantasy character realm or anything. :rotfl:

If somebody turned me loose for costuming / clothing ideas, either individual or large-scale, including fabric (color, pattern) design, I’d have a lot of fun. There are plenty of things that would be “cool guy stuff” and “cool girl stuff” that don’t seem to get made. Science fiction and fantasy, the field’s wide open.

    Go for it, Jane.

  • I love you guys! I needed a boost. :D

Wiishu loves florals and fancy kimono stuffs! He’s very eclectic about what constitutes “girlie.” But he’ll get a kimono RSN. What I really want to make is one of those beautiful historical Korean outfits! They dressed their lads up really purty!

Re: the superhero fabrics: Thanks! I’ll check for future outfits. No time now. I didn’t actually go looking for fabrics online. Just checked the local stores and didn’t find anything that would go with the red felt I had for his jacket.

BCS: If I hadn’t already made it when they posted the game rules, I’d make that jacket for him now. It’d be perfect. And it is fleece. But I don’t want to duplicate his wardwobe. :D

The lighter weight fleece works pretty well on him. And you’re right, most fleece prints are way too large. Several spacey ones I’d love to use for him, but the prints are too large. HOWEVER! We went to dinner tonight and our favorite dive is right next to Hancock fabrics and we found a darling print that should work really well. I’ll go take a pic…

This was the original sketch (the print w/b a shirt inside the jacket
    PR sketch

This was the rejected print (the funny fur on his head was just an idea I was playing with. I planned to use the pale blue) As you can see, they did have a point. It’s just that I still think that it’s no more costumy for a boy than the little girl outfits some are coming up with.
    kitty print

But it’s moot. I’ve found something that will be cute and should fit in their parameters:
    final fabrics

The shirt will be the “Far Out” knit that used to be a sock! The “far” will be on the front and “out” on the back. I’ll use the yellow sock-top for the bottom finish on the shirt so it will stay above his pants, and the heel will make short sleeves. If I can find a tshirt that’s the right color in my “get rid of” stack, it’ll have long sleeves under the short caps. For the jacket, I’ll use the lower circled part for the body and the arrows will be the sleeves. I’ll use the pale blue for his hat and probably as trim on the jacket. I’m going to try lining the jacket with it. It’s very squishy. Then he’ll have his black cargo pants.

And I still want to try to make him some high top tennies! All depends on how fast the rest goes. I’ve figured how to map a pattern on a grid in PSP, which should make it go more quickly.

    • I love the turquoise and purple palette you wanted to use! So pretty! Perhaps later you can do it, as a reward for getting some writing or cover work done.

The Far Out choices are great! Definitely can see Wiishu wearing Far Out on his person! LOL! Are you going to use yellow piping to accent the pieces? I could see the fuzzy hat stuff being used as leg warmers or boots, too.

      • I loved that palette, too. Doesn’t he look good in it? He’ll definitely get the black cat coat (This lad is going to have more clothes…) He’ll definitely get leg warmers, too, tho not with this outfit. If I don’t get his hightops done, he’ll wear his pink tennies. But leg warmer won’t go with the cargo pants.

No piping, tho I thought about it. There’s already so much going on, I actually simplified what I had planned for the shirt. Plus, the coat is very fitted, so not a lot of room for extra underneath.

I got the coat and the shirt mostly finished today and I’m very happy! I’ve decided that I do indeed have mad sewing skills tho I think that in my case it means certifiable! My PSP patterns worked fabulously! I’m very excited about the possibilities. I need to give him slightly more room for his round little tuckus and I made the coat sleeve a little tight (worked fine in the muslim test, but I need to remember to allow extra for fleece seams. Uses up armhole room) so I’m not able to line it. :(

I’m looking forward to doing his cargo pants next weekend!

  • Jane, after reading your response about the clothes…..and whether or not Wiishu would look “girly” in certain fabrics, designs, etc. I got to thinking about Temorii and Thyerii…..would you consider getting another pair of BJDs and dress one as Temorii and the other as Thyerii. Kind of like you have on the designs of the shirts.

I’m pretty sure that Wiishu, being elfin, or elven (depending on your perspective, I guess)doesn’t really care what other people wear or think about his stuff. If he likes it, it’s cool. If he doesn’t like it, then he doesn’t wear it, and maybe it goes to another. After all, Mom does design his clothes, as well as Momma-D, so he should be as Anthony Burgess wrote, “in the heighth of fashion” (A Clockwork Orange).

  • Heh heh…that’s why I was ready to bow out. However, I think I’ve found a compromise.

Re: TnT I’d love to, but the cost is completely prohibitive. I’m trying not to regret MnV, beautiful as they are. I don’t know that I’ll ever make enough from ebook graphics to justify them. Maybe it’ll be different once I start making their costumes. I’m still gathering materials for those, and won’t get into it until the rewrites are finished. (Please don’t ask my how I justify taking time off from that to do another outfit for Wiishu. Stuffs for him is just…different!) :D

One of the ChicLines could be modded accordingly…bring the waist up and the bust down and give it some persponals…but it’s just too expensive. Someday, if the ebooks magically take off, I might consider it, or if I actually do get to making and selling some doll clothes to offset the costs, but right now, I just can’t. OTOH, Nothing is to stop me from getting the Morgaine doll different wigs and making her properly “padded” clothing. The boobies w/b too large, but bringing the waist up…hmmmm and maybe using an LTF head to shift the proportions…Hmmm…wonder if one will show up for sale that I could mod into TnT….Hmmm….

    • you know, it’s an ongoing project, not a rush job. It was a suggestion, but I understand the costs involved, even though I don’t play with any dolls – plushy stuffed animals are my weakness.

I wouldn’t dream of asking you how you justify taking time off from stuff to work on Wiishu’s outfits, that is a release for you, and if you’re stuck in front of a computer screen all day working on rewrites and graphics, you’re going to end up with “CBS Eyes”.

Are you saying that the proportions of the M doll are somewhat like the Barbie dolls? If Barbie were a real woman, she’d be so top heavy she couldn’t stand up, from what I understand. And, who knows, maybe M is well endowed, but not to the point of a Barbie. Carolyn never said what Morgaine’s physical dimensions were (height, for starters). I’m not saying she should have an hourglass figure, she’s a warrior, she’s not fully human, and so whatever blood she has from Anjurin is going to contribute to her physical shape. Obviously, she’s not part qhal, or at least, I take it that way, because Skarrin is of an older race than the qhal and he was associated with Anjurin.

So, anyway, take your time on these projects. If you feel like you’re being rushed into another outfit or another doll, then it’s not going to be fun for you. What I find gratifying is that you share your fun with the rest of us, and it’s always a pleasure to look a little bit into the adventures of the mischievous house-elf and his sidekick Tinkaboutit.

      • :D

I got the so-called “small bust” on the ChicLine for M, but it’s still pretty hourglass! Not as bad as a Barbie, but pretty spectacular. Mostly, she’s quite hippy, which is understandable: they need those hips for the ball joints. I’d say proportionately the biggest difference between my comic Morgaine and the resin Morgaine is the hips.

The thing about Dancer is that s/he can be, without any sort of under-garment adjustment, a creditable male or female, i.e. and very slender, androgenous body. It might almost be better to start with one of the adolescent male bodies, except they tend to make them very non-muscular.

Dancer’s one I might, someday, actually sculpt myself, once I understand how the jointing works. I know you can sculpt then cast the parts, and I’d love to put this kind of hip joint on her/him
        >doublejointlegs

        • Yeah, unlike the way most males in this country feel, a woman doesn’t have to have a big bust for me to feel she’s attractive. I think it’s a matter of how she carries herself and if she’s comfortable in her body, it will show.

Let’s see, Morgaine also rides Siptah astride, and the saddle on the Baien gray isn’t that small, so she would need to be able to comfortably sit without her legs being pulled out of her hip joints. So, a bit “hippy” is in fact a good thing for her.

When you say that the dolls are non-muscular, does that mean that Dancer is muscled like a ballet dancer, for instance? Very strong, long, lean muscles that can propel the dancer across a stage in a jete or hold in one position for a time?

  • Hmm, I’m liking the ideas. The slightly Cossack shirt and hat, cool. The purple and blue outfit, also cool for a house-elf. The “Far Out” shirt idea is great. The jacket from that turquoise and orangey-pinky blanket, neat idea.

Though this got me thinking about myself as a kid/teen. How daring or conservative would I have been? Answer: Mostly fairly conservative, with a little sore spot about something I thought might make the other guys think I looked too girly or not cool. Yeah, even early on, that was in there. Too bad, too…because I got hassled some anyway, so…why didn’t it occur to me to own it and rock it, if they were gonna make fun? Though there were a few things in the 70′s as a kid and young teen that got past that, heh. Partly because the other guys did too.

Uh, it also occurred to me that “Far” on one side of the shirt and “Out” on the other…mixed message, ;) depends on the viewer’s opinions. “Far Out” together, different impression. — But you know what? Good for Wiishu, for what might be food for thought in people smart enough to think for themselves. — If Glee fans can wear a shirt that says “Likes Boys,” then by golly, a shirt that can be read multiple ways is just fine. Er, if the alternative message was unintentional and dissonant with what you had in mind, please don’t let it deter you. A “Far Out” shirt is, well, far out! (Heheh, and there’s a concert clip with John Denver saying how he still said “far out.” :) )

However — This is the 21st century, the times, they are a-changin’, and Wiishu is a house-elf and can wear whatever the heck he pleases.

(I wish boys’ behavior wasn’t so straitjacketed in this kind of thing, too.)

Straitjacket? Now there’s a fashion statement! Napoleon the XVIth, anyone? LOL.

  • The doll and action figure proportions:

It seems like most dolls and action figures have the proportions exaggerated somehow, instead of being true to the average human form for whatever age, sex, body type the doll / figure is supposed to be. They’re so often hyper-masculine or hyper-feminine, and then there are the cutesy types and the comic/manga/anime types.

It would be really nice if there were more realistic choices out there. Kids may identify with the hyper-guy/girl dolls/figures, but what does that model for them for how they should be, and what does it say about anyone (or them) who isn’t a hyper-masculine guy or a hyper-feminine girl? What about being average, normal, or in-between…or a little outside the norm?

Well, any ranting aside, it would also be nice to have dolls/figures that look more like real life people, if that’s the sort of look you want to show for pretend/imagination, models, etc. :)

It seems to me too, that the dolls/figures seem mostly geared towards either a younger-than-age look or a very adult look, not much room in between, and they seem primarily intended to appeal to the girls and women, rather than the boys and men. (There’s that whole “real boys don’t play with dolls!” thing, even though plenty of real boys seem to play with G.I. Joe and other “action figures.” ;) )

Just goes to show how much people let perceptions and attitudes get to them, or how wording and marketing can get around that a little.

Does it show any real differences in preferences or gender roles? … I dunno, that’s probably deeper into it than I want to wade off-topic. :) But I probably will anyway, given my usual track record.

    • BCS, years ago, I read an article about dolls and play. Researchers took dolls for gifts to a remote village in New Guinea (IIRC), these people had very little contact with the outside world. When the researchers brought out the dolls for the girls in the village, they were surprised to find that it was the men and boys who played with them.

I always found that whole “doll/action figure” thing to be hilarious. When my younger brother got a G.I. Joe for Christmas, I did say something about a “boy’s doll”, and he got kind of mad at me. Well, I was only pointing out the truth.

      • Joe…do you remember…were they girl dolls or boy dolls? Baby dolls?

Frankly, I think we’re dealing more with a “created” market than a “natural” market, all based on preconceived notions of “proper” for male and female roles. I think we’ve created a society in which girls/women are expected to be hyper-aware of their appearance and men/boys are supposed to take pride in not giving a damn. Women are encouraged to work out so they can wear skinny and revealing clothes. Men are encouraged to work out so they can be stronger than the guy next to them. Personally, I think the happy medium s/b stressed for both.

        • Jane, I don’t recall if the article even mentioned whether they were girls or boys, but I do think they said they were baby dolls.

I’m sure that our market is “created”, remember how TV ads used to be abounding with women who were naturally slender, almost sylph-like, knockout faces, hair, etc., and then enough people complained and the advertising agencies started using “real people” instead of actor portrayals.

I still think the diet commercials are exploiting that perception that we need to be skinny, bulked up, whatever. “I lost 95 pounds by eating 3 meals a day.” But they don’t tell you the meals were all smaller than a kids meal, and they had to work out for at least 20 minutes each day. You can’t take a magic pill and suddenly get a supermodel’s body. Of course, guys can take a magic shot and get a bodybuilder’s body, but at what cost to their health?

I’m going to refer to your 8:40AM entry (below) for this. A woman who is wearing a certain outfit to be sexy can be just the opposite. Case in point: I lived in Florida for a while, and one day, an older couple came into my office. The man was dressed fairly conservatively, but his wife, who was in her 60s and her BMI was somewhere in the mid- to high-30% was wearing a halter top. You couldn’t see the string in the back because her skin had folded down over it. Yuck- but take a 25 year old, BMI of 18%, and she can look like a knockout, even if she’s small busted. It’s how SHE feels about herself. I’m not really sure how I could define what is attractive to me, but when I see it, the little man in my head says, “Hmmm!” They don’t even have to be supermodel material, it’s just something that tells me that I like what I see.

I’m not even all that enamored by pictures of nude women – I don’t read any of the men’s magazines like Playboy, Penthouse, or gawd Hustler. I consider myself to be fairly comfortable with being who I am, and my tastes in women don’t always seem to be logical to me. “Oh, are you a leg man? A boob man?” Hell, I dunno, I just like to watch and see what catches my eye. I don’t have a particular pattern. The lady I’m seeing now isn’t a “supermodel”, but she’s still attractive to me, and she’s 55. You, OTOH, are always attractive to me, and I loved the picture of you at the Steam Plant with your jacket and hat.

      • I love the idea that they can help control overpopulation. They’re certainly less expensive than real kids…when you consider real kids require a college education…not to mention cars and bailing out of jail. :D :D :D

The one that streamed afterward was funny, too.

Dollfie certainly controls the media, doesn’t it? Talk about a well-developed PR campaign! I have to admit, that double jointed hip is something else. I think I saw that on a Dollfie. Sheesh. I loose track of where I see things. But it was a 60+cm doll doing the full Japanese kneeling position. Really impressive. Wish I liked their face-sculpts better.

In fact, I wish there’d be more sculpts with, like, pleasant expressions. There’s a beautiful one that I just saw…a Narin classic face. Older sculpt. He’s got this beautiful, rather shy, smile. Most of the newer ones have these really full, pouty lips. I mean, give me a break! :D I’m beginning to think that for Stephen and Wesley, if I ever do them, I’m going to have to sculpt the face myself.

OTOH, Chibi versions of them…maybe even puki-sized, w/b hysterical! :D

Unfortunately, the sculpt I’d like for Wesley apparently isn’t made any more, but for Stevie, once again, the Shiwoos rule: http://dollfairyland.com/shop/step1.php?number=403

Fooey! Wait! that’s a pukifee. The one I was thinking of for Wesley is a puki puki: http://dollfairyland.com/shop/step1.php?number=35 (specially the sleeping one down at the bottom of the page. But there’s not one that size for Stevie! Unless it w/b a second pukisha…

  • What’s a little disconcerting about this “challenge” is that I’ve just gotten the vibe that they’ve shoved BJD owners suddenly into real world conservatism. OTOH, I think I c/b overreacting to what was, in the end, a fair interpretation of the rules and the fabric…just not my interpretation. I hope I’m being hyper-sensitive. Problem is, my taste has never been mainstream and so where it comes to mainstream taste, I don’t trust my own…if that makes any sense.

One of the odd things I’ve noted for many many many years about the (Western…esp USA) mainstream female taste whether statuary, dolls or cross-stitch images…they’re far and away biased toward surrounding themselves with images of beautiful women in flowing gowns, sexy outfits or frilly little girlie dresses. What the heck? Give me good looking guys in beautiful/sexy outfits (or nothing at all.)

Look at cross-stitch patterns with people in them and for every one that has a guy, (and then he’s poorly designed or has a hidden face since he likely appears with a female) you’ll find hundreds (probably thousands by now) with females in them. If it has a penis, it’s tiny with wings and a bow and arrow, or old with a beard, Santa Clause, Jesus, or a pattern stolen from a picture of some movie star (Angel and John Wayne are popular). I mean…take a look at this site: http://www.123stitch.com/

Beautiful patterns. Wonderful patterns. But where’s equal time for GLG’s? Where’s MY eye candy?

Then…you hit the anime market, where you find absolutely equal opportunity for goodies. Of course, there you run up against an aesthetic of female ideal that is not always to my taste, but at least we get GLGs in cool outfits and beautiful poses.

This extends to the world of BJD’s. At least we have guys, even if the are, for the most part, rather androgenous and young. So are the women. They are both aimed at “beautiful”…but they’re also generic enough that clever faceups can do wonders. It’s easier to age a young face than youthen an adult face. It’s just that most people who get into this are looking for pretty.

But there are still far more female dolls than male, especially on the forums. And the vast majority of BJD “parents” are female. Most of the men in that I’ve noticed in the hobby go primarily for female dolls….which makes perfect sense to me. I just don’t understand why women aren’t pushing harder for “manly men” sculpts. A few of us are, but what sells are the pretty boys.

But I digress. This is the topic for a blog post someday. Where it comes to clothing and this game…The cool thing about the way BJD’ers dress their dolls, male and female, is that they go for extremes of pretty, cool, and downright creepy. There are a few out there who go conservative/normal and that might be who this challenge was designed for. I’ll just have to admit that’s not me, do an outfit Wiishu likes that fits the challenge fabric parameters, if not the end market result (altho I could argue, this is aimed at the house elf market!) I’m cool with that now because I have fabrics that will let me do it. (Just wait till you see the coat. You’ll need to make sure your insulin shots are up to date!)

    Back to work!

    • There have been companies making manly faced men but some stopped producing. Iplehouse is the best in my opinion for realistic masculine males.

For two years I only had male dolls. I finally trickled into female/genderless dolls and most of them are in the tiny range and some are anthros.

  • Heh, I almost went on a long, long post there on some of the disparities in how girls/women and boys/men are used in advertising and media.

Then there’s the issue of who/what is appealing. ;) But that’s sort of off-topic for a thread about outfits for Wiishu, even though I already went on a tangent about both. ;)

But yeah, more equality and realism in how girls/women and boys/men are portrayed, and more freedom for styles and roles, really is needed, if we’re going to match who/what really makes up our world.

And yeah, I wouldn’t mind some of those good looking guys either. :) My idea of who and what is a good looking guy does have a considerable amount of leeway in what I might like, too. I mean, you don’t always want corn flakes, or plain rice, right? :) Though yes, sometimes you do. :)

    • Ah, yes, definitely some serious hotties, but note two things: $700 (ARGH) and the little red “sold out.”

More to the point, I’m really not sure I want even a 60cm let alone a 70, and that’s the problem. Dollfie set this standard of “this size is adult, that size is a “youth”, another size is a “kid” and still another size is, well, a puki! :D) I’m thinking it’s still a relatively new phenomenon. If it lasts, I’m hoping options will come available. And if not, well, I’m a pretty darned good sculpter when I wanna take the time. Good enough for my purposes. Just gotta find out how to cast the resin and decide what size to make it. I’m not in any hurry. It’s actually a good thing I’m not finding my perfect Stephen/Wesley combo cuz it means I can start setting aside funds for when the right laddies do show up. :) Fortunately, I have an adorable little house elf to keep me totally occupied.

Onna-san, my Freya is en route — I just got the e-mail Monday! I blame all of you for getting me hooked on BJD!

  • Since young children (under 5 y/o) are often indistinguishable in sex without identifying clothing, the house elf could be that way, too. Temorii/Thyerii is, definitely.

Adult is what YOU decide is adult, same as with puki. If you want a 70 cm puki, then you should be able to have a 70 cm puki no matter what anyone else says. After all, it’s just a bigger scale, like model railroads, 1/80 scale as opposed to 1/160 scale? The stuff looks the same, it’s just different sizes.

I know that Stephen and Wesley would be intrigued by hot guys, but I’m not, so can’t relate.

I think some of my posts have gone into rambling mode…..must be the lack of sleep…..

    • Joe, many of my adult female characters are fey and are shelled in dolls the size of Wiishu. I did it for a variety of reasons, including space (large dolls take up more room), I prefer the smaller dolls due to my health issues (too much weight wrecks havoc on my arthritis and other chronic physical limitations) and the smaller dolls usually have larger pointy ears in relation to their faces compared to the larger dolls, probably due to casting issues and proportions as the head becomes larger.
